Making Music Fun!

Jennifer Coleman, Owner & Instructor

I grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia spending many hours as a child and teen singing, playing the piano, and acting in my local high school’s drama club. After high school, I got the itch to dive further into contemporary music and found myself a student at the Berklee College of Music, located in Boston, MA, from which I graduated with a Bachelor of Music in 2000.

Returning back to the Hampton Roads area after college, I began teaching private piano and voice lessons, which then led me to open my studio from my home in Chesapeake. I have over 20(!) wonderful years of experience teaching privately, and spent several years as the music director at a local preschool. Most recently I taught semester long class at a local homeschool co-op for young singers ages 6-8 which was utterly delightful!

I really love hosting recitals for my students that feature a theme! In the past I have done a comic book theme and the kids all got to wear capes and create their secret identity. Another year I helped each student learn basic composition and they each presented their very own original pieces at the recital. The sky is the limit for creative opportunities to share and showcase the children’s performances!
